Reasons To Choose A Fixed Blade Camping Knife Instead

By Stephen Martin

Traveling and participating in outdoor activities that involve nature and the wild is fun and quite the challenge. Unlike going on vacation in a resort, convenience is not a matter of commercial accommodation but of personal preparation. There are many tools needed including tents, sleeping bags and other gear that help you cook, and do other tasks that you may need for the trip.

Some may want to buy knives for practical uses, while others buy it for collection purposes. Sharp objects have always been an essential for survival. There are many types to choose from with varying shapes and sizes. But there will forever be a separation for those who would prefer a fixed blade camping knife and those that would rather use the foldable ones.

While folders are getting more popular, there is still very good reason to use fixed knives. They may not be compact but you can assure that using them is absolutely efficient and convenient. The strength that they have is very useful for cutting through tough things.

Digging a hole in the ground which you may need to do during gardening can be done without the worry of getting dirt on the screws and hinges. Cleaning is fast and very straight forward. Other tasks that this can do better are piercing through tough stuff, twisting and pulling. Since some people are very meticulous about their things, you can assure that heavy duty usage would not be a problem here.

The sharp area is also longer than that of folders. The overall length is not really something that allows you to carry it in a pocket but there are always other compartments you can put it in. This is why the fixed knives do better when used in outdoor settings than in other places. It is only in these situations that you are more likely to need a durable knife anyway.

The best usefulness of the folding blades is maximized in the city, where knives are needed but have to look less threatening. Carrying a full blade around looks very violent and may scare people away and cause unnecessary panic. Still, you cannot deny that if the situation calls it, the tool can be of good use in many situations.

There are just some tasks that you would hesitate doing with a knife that rotates and has hinges. With a sturdy fixed blade, prying, twisting and pulling things are easier done. There is no need to worry about breaking the tool or getting skin locked and pinched on the hinges accidentally.

You especially have the option to choose from a variety of lengths. Although a machete cannot really be considered as a knife. Know what general uses you would need for the tool before getting one you would constantly use for your trips. One with a longer blade may not be very efficient for some tasks.

These tools are not only for outdoor use, they can be really handy during emergency situations too. It remains important to keep and know how to use something as life saving as a survival knife because you never know what kinds of freak accidents and situations you can get yourself into. To get the right one, make sure you know what you need it for. A blade that is too big may not be effective and one that is too small may not get the task done properly.
