Remarketing List Management Is Automated By Google's New Smart Lists

By Adam Noah

Google launched Smart Lists in order to automate the development of re-marketing lists. Google took all he data that is shared by millions of websites that opted in data sharing, anonymized the conversion data, and created Smart Lists. This automation promises to save the marketer time and effort from trying to put together a re-marketing list himself.

Just recently, Google's Analytics team introduced the smart lists on Google Analytics option; automating the whole process. Smart lists will basically rely on gathering conversion information, anonymously, from all websites that use Google Analytics and who share their data with Google. With smart lists, the whole re-marketing list management process will become automatic- but only if you opt in and allow Google to manage your lists. Smart lists will then, based on visitor's actions on-site, calibrate your re-marketing campaigns on AdWords to ensure that your marketing strategy aligns with each of your visitor's values.

However, if you run a site that gets more than 500 e-commerce transactions monthly, has over 10,000 page views daily, and uses Analytics to manage your e-commerce tracking then Smart List will automatically get customized by following the characteristics that lead to visitors converting on your particular site. This eases the work for marketers as it will speed up the analysis process and gives more focus on growing the business rather than on list management.

For websites that have at least 500 e-commerce transactions a month and ten thousand daily page-views, the Smart List will be tailored to how the visitors were led to conversion on that specific website. That specific List is only accessible by that specific website. There is no sharing of this new data, and the List will be uniquely marked.

Smart Lists are meant to make re-marketing easier for novices using this method.Smart Lists can make all marketers work smarter and faster. Based on statistical analysis of this new data, the marketer can make a quick decision what factors to focus on to get the most accurate prediction on conversion. It takes time making sense out of a set of data. Smart Lists will continue to improve for more advanced users and automate as much as data interpretation as possible to marketers can spend more time growing his business and not crunching numbers.
