Rankings Matter - How To Get Your Pages To The Top

By Wrisley George

Google pretty much rules the Internet. Your website should be the target of searches through Google - Yahoo! or even Bing), you will not get the most from SEO. Use these tips to get started on a search optimization campaign for your website, and watch your users roll in.

When using SEO on your website, resist the temptation to include common misspellings of your keywords to increase hits. Most search engines today are smart enough to fix users' mistakes before the search even begins, so traffic will not increase using this method. Instead, your site will appear unprofessional and untrustworthy to visitors.

When trying to get your site ranked well by the search engines, it is important that you write meaningful markups so that the spiders can easily find your content. Always focus on two solid principles here. One, make sure to use the proper headings and listings. Two, remember to always validate your markup.

Do not clutter your site with useless items that take up valuable revenue space. While many of these things can add some flare or decoration, they also cost you money. Yes they may be free, however, it is just wasted space if that space could be generating income through an ad or link.

Optimize your site with an informative error page, rather than a basic 404 page. This page can offer solutions to the error, such as other relevant content links or a link back to the site's homepage. Search engine spiders will find these pages and index them as if they were content, raising your ranking.

There are many different types of meta tag, including one for keywords - but up-to-date webmasters rarely use it. Although keywords are the heart of any search engine optimization effort, the keyword meta tag has been so debased with spam-like abuse that today search engines ignore it entirely. Do not waste time packing the keyword tag; focus on more important areas.

Do not create a site with search engine optimization as your primary goal. This won't make your site money, but the customers do. Build your site with the visitor in mind. Ask yourself: "Is my site fun, enjoyable, or useful?" If you answered no to all of those, you will not see hits and clicks from interested people.

While including your keywords in as many locations as possible can be a brilliant plan to get noticed, make sure you keep them relevant to your topic, and do not stuff them in everywhere. Some search engines will actually block sites who overload their websites who use too many, so use as many as you can. Just don't overdo it!

Every link on a website that leads to an external site should be validated regularly. Links that point to missing content (broken links) are bad news. Not only are broken links annoying to website visitors, they are penalized by search engine indexing algorithms. Fixing or deleting broken links improves a website's position on the search engine results pages.

Find free tools to help you submit. Several websites offer automated submission tools, that help you submit to up to hundreds of article directory sites in a short amount of time. Search very hard to find the free tools that do this. Most sites charge a fee for this task, but if you are lucky you will find those that do not.

Use these tips to keep your site on people's minds. When a search engine finds your website relevant, it will be ranked high in search results. Implement these tips today and get ahead of the game. If you aren't using these strategies, you can bet competitors are.
